[sticky post] Welcome post

Hail, fellow travellers, and well met. My LJ is mostly for fic, recs, icons, vids and fannish nonsense - fic/vids/icons etc. remain open, but the rest has got largely flocked these days (people were scraping entries via tags, unfortunately). I'm terribly obscure and multi-fannish, but generally happy to make new friends. I crosspost from Dreamwidth, too, but tend to read my flist via LJ.

My fic:
lost_spook on AO3
vvj5 at A Teaspoon and An Open Mind (the Doctor Who archive)

My vids:
lostspook1 at YouTube

Current & Past Prompt tables etc: genprompt_bingo card (Round 11) | Fourth Doctor Era - 6 Prompts (for dw_allsorts) | Historical for dw_allsorts | Hurt/Comfort Bingo Card | Trope Bingo card | 100 Element Prompts | 50 Ficlets | Shakespeare Plays Watched.

Also the 500 Prompts Meme. runaway_tales: Masterpost here.

Dear Yuletide Letter 2016 here

Notes on permission: Any remixes etc. based on fanworks of mine are fine - go ahead, and do let me know; I'd be thrilled. And, obviously, credit is nice. No posts made here to be reproduced elsewhere, thanks. If you wish to link to any open posts, of course, please do so!

If you would like to friend me and we haven't already interacted, please drop me a comment to say hi.

Perhaps a task for the long weekend - rearrange your tags?!
Dec. 31st, 2010 11:06 am (UTC)
Aargh! No! Like I don't have a million other things to do, rl and virtual!!!

I think my LJ tags are past sorting these days. Plus, I always like neat lists of things together, anyway.

Sorry I spoke...
Dec. 31st, 2010 06:56 pm (UTC)
Just my jokey over-reation to the idea. Sorry!
Dec. 31st, 2010 07:00 pm (UTC)
Oh. I've had to deal with cranky customers and moronic technology so my sense of humour's vanished.
Dec. 31st, 2010 07:04 pm (UTC)

I have not had horrible work to deal with, but am feeling ill on my holiday, which is not much fun, either. :-(

Er. Happy New Year, anyway!!!
Dec. 31st, 2010 07:08 pm (UTC)
No, it's not - but feeling ill and knowing you HAVE to go to work is no better! (I woke up feeling feverish thanks to my cold making a ressurgence...)

Happy New Year!

Aw, poor you! Do you have to go in tomorrow, or are you off for the weekend now?

I was annoyed at wasting my hols, but relieved at no work. I have a combination of a bad cold and a very unwanted wisdom tooth. (At least that bit is much less painful today, but that seemed to be the signal for the cold to take over... I think there's a law about having to have something wrong with you over Christmas. At least it's not the flu, I suppose.)

Here's to 2011 being much better all round! (Please...)
Dec. 31st, 2010 07:47 pm (UTC)
I'm off tomorrow and Sunday - but I have to work on Monday, even though Headington will be dead as most of the shops will be shut!

I suspect that colds lurk until you relax and then WHAM!

I do hope 2011 is better!

Random question: Why not have a photobucket yourself that people can grab icons from?

(Sorry, late reading this as usual)
Sep. 19th, 2014 06:36 am (UTC)
I do have a Photobucket to host my icons when I post sets of them, but unfortunately somewhere along the line people seem to have been hotlinking (using the icons directly from my Photobucket) instead of saving them to the hard drive and hosting them somewhere themselves. So I deleted the vast majority of my icon sets and am now using tinypic for icons, because I don't think it has the limit like PhotoBucket, or at least, no one's started hotlinking there.

D'OH! People are such assholes. I save the stuff I like from you with a lostspoook nametag (and number)

Hey I'm Freya on Teaspoon! I finally got around to friending you again. Bad me!
Oct. 16th, 2014 11:55 am (UTC)
Hi, I hadn't realised that was you! I shall indeed go and friend you back again! :-)
Nov. 16th, 2014 01:34 pm (UTC)
Mind if I Friend you? You seem pretty interesting anyway, but apart from anything else, anyone who has Silver as their default LJ userpic is a pretty decent person in my book! :-)
Nov. 16th, 2014 01:52 pm (UTC)
Yes, please do! I can see we have quite a few interests in common, so I shall go off now & friend you back.

And while I've calmed down since my first S&S watch a couple of years ago, I do indeed love Silver rather a lot.

Hope you don't mind that I friended you!

Not at all! I'll friend you back now. :-)

I just stopped by to leave you a big "THANK YOU" note. I read very little fanfiction, and I bookmark even less of it to re-read.

You have joined vilakins and katherine_b as one of my permanent bookmarks to read on my lunch hour.

I've been going through a more-rough-than-usual patch, and your fiction is helping me keep some mental and emotional equilibrium.

Thank you.

Aw, thank you! I'm very sorry to hear that life is handing you a rough deal at the moment, but very touched that you find any of my fic helpful. ♥

I do hope things improve soon!

Permission to reprint
Hi there,
I just took over the editing of a small Doctor Who fan club newsletter in Florida and there has long been a desire for fan fiction. I was wondering, even though it is such a short piece, if you would be willing to let us reprint your story "Friendly Warning" in an upcoming issue? You can contact me directly at Ceronomus AT gmail.com if you are interested.

Hi. I've been seeing you around, we're in similar circles, with some friends in common, so I thought friending you was in order :-)

HI back! Thank you, and I've friended you too now. :-)
Jul. 13th, 2016 09:49 pm (UTC)
Hey! Hope you don't mind me friending you - you have great taste in slightly obscure fandoms.
Jul. 14th, 2016 09:00 am (UTC)
Aw, thank you! That would be very nice. I shall go off to friend you now.

Also, 'slightly obscure'! I try harder than that; I think I've definitely achieved highly obscure fandoms by now. ;-p But seriously, which ones did you mean in particular, just out of interest?
Jul. 14th, 2016 01:00 pm (UTC)
Friended :)

Lmao. Quite so. But, in answer - there's Classic Who for one thing (Three! Delgado!). And I was basically bottlefed British mysteries all through childhood, which resulted in an unwieldy Holmes obsession, so there's that. Also Jonathan Strange = amazing. More peripherally, how often do you hear of Wodehouse, Red Dwarf or Allo Allo these days, haha. So if either of those crosses my flist even once in a blue moon that can only be an improvement. :)
Jul. 14th, 2016 08:08 pm (UTC)

And, aw, yes, Classic Who is always going to get you in the door. Three is not my favourite, but my love of Delgado more than makes up for that. (Not that I don't like Three, but when I was a bb DW fan, all the fellow fans I found were Pertwee fans and I was alone in my Seven-loving. It was hard. They ate you alive in the 90s for liking Sylvester McCoy or Colin Baker. Heh.) And, yay, yes, JS&MN, mysteries, Wodehouse, Red Dwarf and Allo Allo are all things to be glad of in an flister.

I just keep watching more and more random old TV and then going on about it and wondering why no one else has ever heard of it. Lately I have developed a thing for 1930s British films. It is not helping with the obscurity levels. :-)
Jul. 14th, 2016 09:44 pm (UTC)
Aw, yeah, I can imagine. My old friend who got me into DW is a bit defensive of Colin Baker too, haha. I don't know him well enough, but I do love Seven. ♥

Well I'm going to enjoy hearing about all these lost treasures! I have a massive backlog of Holmes adaptations and then possibly Raffles adaptations to work through (life's work, y/n) so I can sympathise. :)
Jul. 15th, 2016 07:42 am (UTC)
Oh, I have just been watching one of the old Holmes adaptations - the BBC 1965 with Douglas Wilmer and Nigel Stock. And while I have enjoyed various other Holmes things (I have alwasy found myself enjoying of but never fannish), I adored them for some reason & even felt fannish. I'm not sure whether this is just me and 60s TV these days, or what...

I have watched some Raffles, but I was mainly in it for the pilot, which has James Maxwell as Inspector McKenzie, and Amazon lied to me about its S1 set having James Maxwell (blatantly and shamelessly), which made me resent it unfairly. But Anthony Valentine was excellent, of course. (It was just definitely better when it had JM as well.)
Jul. 15th, 2016 11:07 pm (UTC)
Oh, that's cool! I've had that recommended to me actually. Will try to get round to it after the 1954 Ronald Howard (and then there's the Bert Coules radioplays)... a quick google image search seems to tell me Roger Delgado is in it! Speak of the devil. That'll be fun.

I'm not 100% sure what I think of Anthony Valentine purely based on his looks (I get picky about that stuff), but we shall see!
Jul. 16th, 2016 12:24 pm (UTC)
It does have bonus Roger Delgado indeed! It also has Patrick Troughton, although not in the same episode. Old telly is never less than highly incestuous. I find it quite comforting. :-)

Oh, sorry, I was assuming you must have watched it if you liked it, for some reason. Anthony Valentine is always good and it was his signature part, really. Christopher Strauli is the most naive innocent alive as Bunny. My real problem with it (when I'm not having stupid favourite actor sulks) is that I'm too law-abiding. I can take an episode and enjoy it and after that I get stressed because they keep stealing things! I had the same problem when I tried to watch Hustle. I have to stick to the detectives, it seems.
Jul. 16th, 2016 02:10 pm (UTC)
Oh yes. Current telly, too - my mum says that watching British mystery tv is a bit like a family reunion because it's all familiar faces, haha.

they keep stealing things! I KNOW. I'm torturing myself slowly by reading the books atm, and every time they come up with some new harebrained plan (well, I say "they") I'm practically reading through my fingers. It's a train wreck of dysfunction but I can't seem to stop watching it unfold ;)
Jul. 16th, 2016 07:09 pm (UTC)
At least Robin Hood had a decent excuse... /o\
