Snowflake Challenge - extra

s&s - silver
I nearly forgot those two last recs I asked for for one of the earlier days. (I asked for recs in fandoms I didn't know. I like to live dangerously sometimes.)

From [personal profile] the_redjay:

Relatively Unreasonable (2162 words) by jonesandashes
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Lackadaisy
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Dom/Zib, Mordecai Heller & Viktor Vasko, Freckle/Ivy
Characters: Dorian "Zib" Zibowski, Dom Drago, Ivy Pepper, Viktor Vasko
Summary: “We’ve got to stop meeting like this,” says Dom, sliding into the booth across from him. This is a joke; Zib’s never laid eyes on him outside the big house. It occurs to him that maybe the reverse isn’t true - alto sax is the sort of girl that demands attention, and Lackadaisy’s bright for a cellar but dim for a dance hall. You don’t see much from the stage.

This was obviously a very well written story, but I really didn't have a clue what was going on. The inevitable downside of trying fandoms I don't know. What did I expect? Heh. However, if you know the fandom, it looks excellent as far as I can tell. It's really neatly written and witty/clever throughout, which I did appreciate, even in my state of ignorance. (Thanks for the rec, anyway, it was enjoyable mystification.)

And from [profile] eve11:

Folsom Prison Blues (2736 words) by eve11
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Sam Carter, Jack O'Neill, Daniel Jackson, Teal'c (SG-1)
Summary: A fiery death was so not on his agenda today.

Well, I don't need to know SG1 to get jokey being-locked-in-a-cell fic, (it's a DW trope, too) so this was highly entertaining and very good. (I do have some at least some fleeting acquaintance with SG1 because my housemate used to watch it and tell me when Daniel had died again.) Basically, this was very enjoyable and amusing. Thanks!

And that really is the end of the [community profile] snowflake_challenge from me now.

Thanks again for reading. :) I am glad you liked it.

I had the same reaction to the lackadaisy one when I checked it out back in your original post. I couldn't read through all of it because I had no idea what was going on. However that DID make me go seek out the comic, which is about Prohibition-era moonshiners and speakeasy bars in the US. The characters are all cats though, anthropomorphised. I read through the first couple of pages and it seemed interesting and well-drawn. Something I could end up spending too much time on... ;)

I did!

Yes, someone linked me to the comic over on Dreamwidth. I'll have to take a look. It was certainly intriguing. It's one of those things - it's very hard to tell what is and isn't accessible to those who don't know the fandom.

As a longtime SG1 fan, it is encouraging to know that even people who don't know the show know that bit! :D

(My friends had at some point a note on the door that pointed out that Daniel Jackson is a renewable food source for man-eating aliens :D)

Yes. The first time she was a bit distraught, because he was her favourite character, but after that it turned into, "Oh, and Daniel's dead again, but it's okay..."
