Some British TV things

spooks - Harry/Ruth/Bench = ♥
1. Petition to save The Hour (you can find all the details here via the links). It's fast heading up to 13,000 and needs over 2000 more people, so, if anyone else feels like saving yet another excellent TV show from winding up with a never-resolved cliffhanger, please go there. (It's about a BBC current affairs TV show in the 1950s with Romola Garai, Ben Wishaw, Dominic West and Anna Chancellor and having just seen S1, I can tell you I don't want it to be left unfinished. It's another Kudos show as well - Spooks, Life on Mars etc.) Probably doomed to failure, but who knows? 15000 people might make a difference.

2. Richard Briers has died (1934-2013)

Some of the quotes from him on his illness, though... I don't have any difficulty imagining him saying them: "I was diagnosed five years ago and didn't think it would go quite as badly as it has. It's a bugger, but there it is. I used to love smoking." And: "It's totally my fault," he said. "So, I get very breathless, which is a pain in the backside. Trying to get upstairs... oh God, it's ridiculous. Of course, when you're bloody nearly 80 it's depressing, because you've had it anyway."

Alas for the inevitably of time marching onwards... :(

Not seen The Hour.

Yes, indeed. :-(

The Hour is very good - well worth a watch should the opportunity come your way. I haven't seen S2, but I'm looking forward to it - although less now if they cancel it and leave me hanging off a cliff!

I probably won't - I started watching Dancing on the Edge - and am now nearly 2 eps behind (I've seen the first two but the fourth airs tonight!)

Oh RICHARD.... *sobs weakly* RIP you lovely man.

You know he's the reason I actually have an acting job next week... I'm going to be a wreck doing it now. >.<

Aw. :-(

Oh, well, good luck with that - and how is that down to Richard, if you don't mind me asking you?

Yeah, I'm pretty broken right now.

Thanks, and well... he's the one got me in touch with Ms. Kendal... who was looking for out of work actresses to try and set up a show for us to show off our skillsets... and well, I'm one of them.

Shame about both The Hour (which I still haven't seen) and Briers. *sigh*

The Hour is very good. I haven't seen S2 - it's taken me a long time to get hold of S1 - but I'm sure you'd like it. It's beautifully made, a very good cast and doesn't go to the predictable place it seems to be heading at the start, which impressed me. (And I would have liked it anyway, for all the rest even if it had.)

And, yes, it is sad about Richard Briers. :-/

I saw on Facebook that Richard Briars is gone. :o( I had no idea he was ill with emphysema either.

Fun fact about Richard Briars though: he dubbed the voice for the French king in The Three and Four Muskateers films. If you listen, you can tell it's him, but the dubbing is really well done.

:-(

I didn't know that. Ha. I have those. I'll have to watch them again sometime and listen harder. It doesn't surprise me, though. Nothing about those two films surprises me any more.

Good old Richard Briers. Such a nice man by all accounts. Always fun to see him in Ken Branagh's movies, and then later turning up in "Torchwood".

Did you ever see "Skallagrigg?" Terrific BBC play based on the book, about the experiences of British disabled people. It aired once in 1994, and hasn't been seen since. I looked it up earlier, after hearing the news, and found that it's been posted on YouTube. I recall being particularly impressed by Briers in that (although it's twenty years since I've seen it, of course).

It's here if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4epmFseC6dQ. One of those things that seem almost forgotten now, which is a shame.

Yes, he really does seem to have been. I read those quotes from him about his illness and had to grin - exactly the same way he always sounded. "It's a bugger, but there it is..."

I haven't - and thanks for the link, although I doubt I'll be able to just yet. But thanks.
