12 Characters Meme (Yes, again...!)

I said I was going to rewrite those questions, didn't I? So, here we are - the 12 characters meme as recreated by yours truly. I kept an odd question or two (and stole others from other memes I have known), but it now has slightly less shipping, fewer questions that can be answered by yes or no and hopefully more even use of the 12 characters. For everything else, I'm sorry, but I at least did test drive it personally first... /o\

Anyway, here are the rules (and my apologies to whoever came up with this meme originally): Write a list of 12 characters from any fandom. Then answer the questions under the cut. (Don't look at the questions before you make your list!)

1. Eighth Doctor (DW)
2. Orac (B7)
3. Regina Mills (Once Upon A Time)
4. Ace (DW)
5. Miss Marple
6. Malcolm Wynn-Jones (Spooks)
7. The Master (Delgado) (DW)
8. Ros Myers (Spooks)
9. Sixth Doctor (DW)
10. Rupert Giles (BtVS)
11. Mary Crawley (Downton Abbey)
12. Harry Sullivan (DW)

8 [Ros Myers] and 4 [Ace] get stuck in a lift. What happens?

The lift doesn't make it out alive.

Randomise a song by your preferred means (shuffle your iPod/MP3 player/iTunes/the internet). Pick out the line(s) that best fits 2 [Orac].

will it help the stars to fall in line
when ours collide
and can i see the future
("She Might" - The Noise Next Door.)

What would be your plot device of choice for a fic involving 11 [Mary Crawley] and 6 [Malcolm Wynn-Jones]?

Given that Malcolm's around in the early 21st and Mary's in the early 20th, it's got to be time travel (and then Malcolm has to enlist Mary's help to fix whatever technical meddling brought them together).

Rec a fanwork about 12 [Harry Sullivan].

Here's a really good one that was posted recently: Reconnection by Llewela. (Harry Sullivan & Sarah Jane Smith, All ages, 3032 words.)

Where would 9 [the Sixth Doctor] take 5 [Miss Marple] on a date?

I think it has to be a nice, genteel tea-shop. People give Six Looks, but it's not as if he's bothered. It is a quiet but enjoyable date, and then they go solve crime and Miss Marple is apologetically more awesome than Six. He pretends he's annoyed about this, but he's probably going to ask her if she also makes chocolate cake and if she'd like to travel with him.

2 [Orac] and 4 [Ace] are now buddy cops. Do they make a good team & is this bad or good news for nearby criminals?

They would be, if they could work together, a scarily effective team, but it depends a lot on what Orac's up to, and if Ace is undercover for reasons of her own. If the nearby criminals are, say, called Vila and Avon, then it is probably a good day for them (probably ;-p). Ace would be a good cop, except for her tendency to get suspended due to blowing stuff up. Orac would not, but knowing nearly everything does compensate for some things.

Make up a summary for an apocalyptic fic featuring 5 [Miss Marple] and 10 [Rupert Giles].

It's the end of the world (again) if Rupert Giles doesn't stop it, and this time the only help he has is a little old lady who knows how to knit. The demons have never been so terrified.

If 3 [Regina Mills] and 7 [The Master] were a couple, how would they meet and would it work out?

Well, I suppose the Master would naturally be interested in what sort of powers could cause Storybrooke to exist, and he'd be happy to pretend an interest in Regina to find out about it, and she was pretty bored during those 26 years. I don't think it'd work out, though. All the Master wants is to learn how to cast a curse to trap the Doctor... And there's no way Regina's going to sacrifice anyone (especially not Henry) for somebody else's revenge. Nor can I imagine her being too easy to hypnotise, so at that point it all went pear-shaped. Not that it was ever really, er, apple-shaped to begin with.

1 [the Eighth Doctor], 10 [Giles], and 8 [Ros Myers] go on an epic road trip. Where are they going, who drives, and who gets left behind at the first stop?

I don't know where they'd be heading, but it's obviously important, possibly a Hellmouth. They're all sensible sorts (mostly) so they opted to share the driving until the Doctor's first turn, after which it was decided that Ros and Giles would share the driving and that Ros would shoot the Doctor if he attempted to take the steering wheel again. The Doctor was obviously the one who got left behind, which could have been for reasons of his own, because he kept asking if they were nearly there yet or because the sonic screwdriver plays havoc with the car's systems. Giles and Ros reach the Hellmouth and Ros kills things with forks.

In a coffee shop type AU with 9 [Sixth Doctor] and 4 [Ace], what would their establishment be called?

Nitro Nights. It'd be vegetarian, and strangely prone to fires in the kitchen. The chocolate cake would be impressive and plentiful and carrot juice would be banned.

What would the title be for a romance novel/film featuring 7 [The Master] and 12 [Harry Sullivan]?

Saved by a Sailor? Er. It'd probably be something weirder than that but my brain failed me.

If forced to choose, would you rather have an evening out with 1 [Eight] or 11 [Mary Crawley]?

Oh, well it'd have to be Eight, really. I don't think Mary would think very much of me.

What's your favourite pairing (romantic or otherwise) for Regina Mills?

I really like lots of Regina's canon relationships - I think that she has so many interesting relations with people is probably one reason why I like her. I'll confess, though, I really do like Regina/Emma in fandom. (It's the reverse of my usual problem, which is there being no fanworks for my pairing/character. In this case, there's two thousand or so but I can't find any I like very easily. I'm pernickety.)

Write a snippet from a 8 [Ros Myers], 9 [Six] and 3 [Regina Mills] pirate AU. ('Snippet' here meaning 'as brief as you like'.)

"I don't care who made you Captain," said Ros. "If you don't stop singing, you'll feel the sharp end of this cutlass."

The Doctor sulked. "I'll have you know some people I know would pay for the privilege - all right, all right, Miss Myers. You - aha - make your point."

Regina decided she could probably stop looking for a silencing spell now and concentrate on something more useful.

11 [Mary Crawley], 1 [Eight], 12 [Harry] and 5 [Miss Marple] are on a talent show. Who wins?

Somehow I suspect it's down to Eight or Mary. Miss Marple would probably be more interested in backstage mysteries, Harry's not exactly competitive, and I don't know what show-biz type talents they might have. Eight could no doubt pull off a magician's act or an escape routine and Mary can sing. I think Mary might win because she's the one who's likely to want it the most. She'd probably be willing to resort to some cheating if she really felt like it, too.

Aliens try to make 2 [Orac], 6 [Malcolm] and 12 [Harry] do it. Do they have any luck?

No, I don't think they do somehow. Malcolm would be very interested in Orac, though. But not like that. Of course, if the aliens are trying to make them do something technical, Malcolm and Orac would be a crack team and Harry would try to be as helpful as possible.

What might 1 [Eight] say to compliment 5 [Miss Marple]?

You're the best detective I've ever met? Or possibly, "You know, that may very well be the best cup of tea I've ever had! And what splendid knitting. You'll have to teach me how to turn a heel. I never did quite get the hang of it."

What would 10 [Giles] hate most about 2 [Orac]? And what would 9 [Six] love most about 10 [Giles]?

Well, Giles never was that fond of computers, let alone an uppity one with a worrying habit of trying to kill people when it's bored. I don't know if Six and Giles could get along without some arguing, but they'd both be able to bond on the subject of tea, books, saving the world etc.

If you had to write a crossover involving 6 [Malcolm Wynn-Jones] and 4 [Ace], how would it go and/or what would the crossover fandom be?

Oh, it would definitely involve saving the world from aliens/terrorists while blowing things up and Malcolm advising Ace on how to make nitro 9 pack even more of a punch.

Go here to generate a random poem. The second line is now the title of a fic about 11 [Mary Crawley] and 7 [The Master]. What's the plot? (Link: http://plagiarist.com/poetry/random/)

"That Drab Untidy Man"

For reasons, the Master poses as one of Mary's suitors, but is having a bad day and coming off as less than his usual debonair self. Although given that Mary minds hanging round a pig-sty less than you'd imagine, maybe it all works out.

If 3 [Regina] and 9 [Six] decided to get together and pull off a jewel heist, how would that go?

Well, it's probably a magical item that needs retrieving and while their would no doubt be difficulties and shenanigans (and snarking at each other), that's a pretty effective team.

7 [The Master] has got to save the world from 8 [Ros Myers]. Is the world saved or doomed?

Well, probably doomed. Although somehow I can't help but suspect that the Master doesn't really want to 'save' the world anyway, so he's probably just lying to fool the Doctor when he claims she needs to be stopped. I'm on Ros's side.

Regarding 'The Drab Untidy Man', does that mean the Master might be the Pratt/Beevers version? Or, heaven forfend, Simm?

I think, regarding the last question, the Master might be saving the world because no-one's allowed to destroy the Doctor's favourite planet except him.

Here's the JavaScript-ified version of the questions. Hope it works.

I specified the Delgado Master in the list, so I don't think I can suddenly swap Masters like that. It's just an unflattering disguise or an unfortunate incident, no doubt. :-)

Hmm, I don't think he's that bothered about Earth. But, of course, obviously in her world-domination attempt, Ros must have captured the Doctor and we all know that nobody's allowed to destroy the Doctor except for the Master.

An unflattering disguise, of course. I should have thought of that :-)

Oh man, Delgado!Master/Lady Mary REALLY needs to be a thing, whether with that plot or something else.
Jul. 30th, 2014 07:11 am (UTC)
Delgado Master/Lady Mary would be very cool, wouldn't it? :-)

Ooh, fun meme! I has borrowed it - and am already slightly regretting my character list, I think... Results will be forthcoming shortly.

You have lots of brilliant answers there; I think my favourite are Six and Miss Marple's date, and Giles and Miss Marple saving the universe :D

Thanks! And Six and Miss Marple is such a lovely idea, I don't know why it doesn't already exist. :-)

Six and Miss. Marple sounds like a most excellent crossover.

What would the title be for a romance novel/film featuring 7 [The Master] and 12 [Harry Sullivan]?

Master and Commander?

And, ha, that is a much better title! (I confess that the question was originally for Eight and Harry but I realised I had two Mary Crawley and the Master questions, so I needed to swap the numbers round, and could not at that late point be bothered with coming up with a more Masterly title. Writing memes is harder than it looks.)

Your meme is better no fear:) There will be stealing...

I'd like to visit Nitro Nights - I imagine the milkshakes have sparklers in.

Yeah, the Master would mess up with Regina like he did with the Queen of Atlantis. He never learns *shakes head*
Jul. 30th, 2014 04:45 pm (UTC)
Hurrah for meme theft! Steal away! \o/

 But you might get the milkshakes tipped over your head if you're not careful.

No, the Master never learns. It would be so much better for him if he only did.

Lol - I am hoping if Nitro Nights isn't installed in the corner of a Farm Foods somewhere, I'll be safe;p
Jul. 31st, 2014 01:32 am (UTC)
You did it! And that's a truly impressive list of questions. Which I will now steal. Because that's what I do. I steal allllll your memes!

Those song lyrics are frighteningly apt for Orac. And I sort of want Master/Regina now, even (or because) it would all go quite spectacularly pear-shaped.

Also, bwahahahaha! Nitro Nights! That's perfect.
Jul. 31st, 2014 05:07 pm (UTC)
I did! It's harder than it looks, so I think I'll hold back on criticising other memes in future. (Right up to posting, I was still going, "Oh, no, wait, that's two questions with those two..." And I'd been through and checked six times already...(

Master/Regina has a certain logic to it - the idea of the Master thinking the curse (if he could work out what the science behind it is, because obviously it can't be magic) might be a handy thing to cast on the Doctor would be fun. It just really, really would also go pear-shaped. Probably involving getting the Doctor to save him from Regina in the process. He never learns, does he? :-)
Jul. 31st, 2014 05:38 pm (UTC)
It does not in the slightest surprise me that the meme-making gets very fiddly. I'd probably be constantly second-guessing what numbers to use where, myself.

The Master never does learn, and I'm increasingly thinking that crossover sounds fun. It's also making me think that I really, really need to get back to that DW/OUaT crossover I stalled out on, in which neither the Master nor Rumplestiltskin learn, and the Master, indeed, spends a lot of time going, "Pffft, that's obviously not magic."
Jul. 31st, 2014 07:33 pm (UTC)
I went over the original version, doing a little bar-gate tally of how many times each number was used (it was quite uneven) and then wrote my questions using the same number combinations, adding in the under-used numbers (or swapping them for an over-used number), making more multi-number questions. Then I mixed them round but I made the mistake of doing it once I'd typed it up, because I kept deleting the number and forgetting which number I'd deleted and that was where the problems came in. I just don't remember numbers at all. Which is handy for completing this meme as many times as I wish, but difficult when writing it. :-)

Heh, yes, that would be great! I really do hope you do manage to get it finished! I do like the Regina version, though, because I think the Master's more likely to resort to flirting as a means to an end than with Rumple.

Is it bad that I imagine Hermione Norris as an extension of the Ros character - I fondly imagine her wondering around London as some kind of fork stabbing, sarcastic vigilante, protecting the weak and the innocent from preying criminals.

Don't destroy my dream ;)
Aug. 2nd, 2014 11:42 am (UTC)
 I think it sounds perfectly reasonable.

Meep your icon! I tried rewatching spooks and gave up at 1.3 :P I almost think I'll leave it as something not to watch again for a good long time - something wonderful never said watched

I once read an article about Hermione rescuing a boy in London from a pack of guys beating him up and ever since then I've just imagined her as a Ros extension :P

My icon was one of a set made for me by a very kind person for fandom_stocking. :-)

And Spooks isn't easy watching. I confess I tend to watch certain episodes more than rewatching as a whole, because you have to be able to cope with the angst and stuff. And I find S2 and S4 easier than S1 and 3. (Everything improves once Ruth walks in the door!!)

Aw, I don't think I know much about her other than Ros, but that is a wonderful story.
Aug. 4th, 2014 12:44 am (UTC)
Everything so does when Ruth walks in. I think this be why s2 is my hands down favourite series of Spooks. I am still pretty convinced that the ending of 2.10 would have been the perfect ending to the show as a whole.

Haha I love that you don't even mention past s4.

I don't know much about Hermione either. Someone else posted the article to their lj :)
Aug. 4th, 2014 03:50 pm (UTC)
 I think I'd have died of viewer frustration if 2.10 had been the last episode! That was the one where we had the longest to wait before the new series, because they moved Spooks from spring to autumn between S2 & 3 and I nearly spontaneously combusted as it was. ;-p

I didn't even mention past S4 because it's only recently (while I've been too ill to watch Spooks very much at all) that I've acquired any of the later series on DVD for rewatching ease. So I don't know how they stand up - I'm looking forward to having a good rewatch when I can. (I've not got anything past S6 yet, though - bit pointless asking for them until I'm capable of watching them. Soon, though...)
